Where she lives

(A response to 1 Kings 19:1-15)

Listen quickly to the sounds all around,
buzzing cars, espresso machines, coal mines digging up the ground

The wonder of humanity and its constant exploration,
of things hidden and distant, entering the puzzle of creation.

And as wonderful and convenient as technology has become,
I wonder if it distracts us, tempts us and slowly turns us numb.

Listen slowly to the sounds all around,
the whisper of the wind, a falling leaf, water trickling in the background

Beauty impossible to replicate full of wonder and the light
reflecting just outside our windows by the sun or moonlight.

And as wonderful and magical natural forces always are,
I wonder if we remember that we have to listen more.

To the paradox of nature tied to buildings and machines,
and the paradox of love that resides in the in-betweens

Connecting the dualities of our contrasting reality
to show us the face of the beloved, of undivisive divinity.

And when we listen truly in this non-dual space
it will give us wisdom for our particular time and place.

So listen to the machines, the roaring ocean and the quiet tension
But listen closer to the in between, for this place is the reality of heaven.
