Bow down, sow here

(A response to Galatians 6: 1-17)

Bend down lower, right down to your knees,
feel the ground, the dirt, the worms, the matter of you and me.

See how it holds magic and mystery as it grows and produces,
see how the brown and the wet is the earth’s golden juices.

You could almost drink it if it weren’t so precious,
but all you can do is bow down to it, knee deep in its essence.

This is the place where you can sow your seeds,
to produce beauty and works of the earth and satisfy its needs.

Stay here and listen to the heartbeat all around,
creator Bunjil is chanting, the branches are singing a lullaby-like sound.

Please don’t leave this place and wander into endless desiring,
for there is nothing there but sadness, anger and dying.

Know that there is nothing more, nothing less, than becoming one with this holy land,
it is what will unite you, give you fullness of joy and guide your actions when it is time to stand.

But only when you feel the dirt, soaking deep into your skin,
can you move well and fully into action, when reconciliation can begin.
