A Hollowing

This feeling
of sun dancing on waves
the cool wisp of wind
you can almost hear the whales sing
I breathe it all in.

And just like that.

The tides change.

The waves no longer lapping my chin,
I find myself deep within

reaching
fighting
breathing

it never felt so far away
panic and pain is all that remain

So I let go
Give up
Close eyes
Breathe out

And in the emptiness
in the hollow of my lungs
I open my eyes
for the first time

Like babe in womb
Like soul in tomb

And fill with waves and wind and whales waking up,
waking me
to wonder in this sea

It was always here

waiting

beneath the surface
to breathe out fear
for wild to steer

for once

and guide me home
in the eye of this storm

to know

for the first time
I was never alone.
