Underneath the Mamre Trees

Three strangers sipping tea
underneath the Mamre trees
sipping slowly

Waiting

Nothing happens quickly in this creation story
7 days it takes for world to breathe
with water, moon and sun drenched in light
with birds, burrowers and bugs dancing in delight.

Rest

A whole day of rest. Of sitting and drinking tea
made by the wild gums, the heavy oaks, the shaded grass underneath

Lay down a while beneath
these rustling, golden leaves.

While world burns
and injustice reigns
is a call to sip tea
to notice earth’s herbs drip down slowly
into the core of the fire
our passionate desire
to end the destruction
of our planet
where all races inhabit
so that we may give birth
even at 90 years old
to the promise of magic
of God as 3
a communion of diversity
gathered, drinking tea
underneath the Mamre trees.
