If there is no heaven

If there is no heaven
I will be at peace by gazing up at the galaxy long enough
so that the stars might remind my matter that it’s made of its dust.

If there is no heaven,
All will be well if mountains masked by low-hanging clouds
continue to remind me of truths hidden and spoken out loud.

If there is no heaven
I will find rest by looking beyond the edge of the sea
reminding me
of the endless sunrises and sunsets that mark eternity.

If there is no heaven
and our bodies decay into earth
I will have comfort in knowing that I will still be united as I return to dust and to dirt.

And know that, someday, some wandering, wondering soul will stand on dirt and look up at dust and find me.
