This Barren Tomb

We have journeyed long and hard,

into the recesses of our souls,

in the darkness of the night,

in the unknown and frightful,

to find ourselves at an empty tomb,

with joy and praise,

with love and laughter,

and yet

with fear.

Where are you in this hollow?

What is this call to follow you to Galilee?

To the beginning of your ministry?

And who is this young man

all clothed in white?

Is he also a reminder to us, too?

A man who was naked

as a babe

who followed you

when all else fled

to see our naked selves

bare

vulnerable

beautiful.

Is this where we are invited

like baby being born

from womb, from tomb

into new life?

into new birth?

Is this laughter and fear we are sensing

the same laughter and fear as Sarah’s

who found herself barren barely able to fathom life still to be lived,

still to be born

within her

within us?

Is this resurrection less about an event that happened

and more about what is happening?

If so

open us to

the mystery of resurrection

that is alive in us today

in this barren tomb

within my barren womb.
