Here I AM

I AM who lives and breathes in soil,
you teach us to let up our toil
of trying to prove our worth
like anything could separate us
from the heartbeat of this earth.

Help us understand
help us know
how our bodies are interwoven with this whole.
Help us take off these sandals
expose our soles
to the pure dust and dirt
you encompass and behold.

Let our feet soak in its richness
as a seed rests in its bosom
so this shy soul might emerge
to become and to purge
all her beauty and her worry
all her faith and her flurry
to catch a glimpse of the holy
alight and ablaze
in the very way she was made.
